Jrgen Gammelgaard got the idea for the multi-shade Tip Top lamp while working for UN at Samoa. After returning to Denmark he made the final design of the 6-shade lamp in December 1971. In 1972 it was launched and became an immediate success.
Soon after he developed the single shade Tip Tops to perfect examples of cool, Scandinavian minimalism. This design is characterized by its unique anti-glare reflector inside the lamp, by the small elegant space between the shade and the socket house and last but not least by the attention to detail that extends down to the precise execution of each component.
